Arrived on site at about 19:30 with Walter MacDonald. Started
observing at 22:30 under a good sky, but by 23:00 it
clouded over. Observed 3
"new" deep sky objects: NGC 4030, NGC
3976, NGC 4045 - all galaxies in Virgo.

Spent from 23:30 to 02:30 assisting Doug Clapp with CCD imaging. After
moonset, which occurred around 03:00, I observed 3 "new" deep sky
objects. NGC 3147, NGC 2985, NGC 2787.
Went home the next day because of cloudy skies. Walter MacDonald was not present
because he went to the RASC General Assembly in Halifax.

Arrived on site at about 19:00 with Walter MacDonald, Cathy Hall, and Doug Clapp. Had to contend with
cirrus clouds a few times during the night, but
eventually cleared completely around 02:30. I observed 16 "new" deep sky
objects:
Berk 58, Frolov 1, King 12, King 21, King 14, Stock 24,
NGC 189, NGC 281, Berk 62, Berk 4, King 16, Cr 33, Cr 34,
IC 1848, Berk 65, NGC 7314.

Perseid Meteor Shower |
With Walter MacDonald and Doug
Findlay. The sky was just clearing from recent
thunderstorms so it was still quite damp, muggy, and
hazy. During the first half-hour of observing we were
periodically "blinded" by lightning! Here is

Total Lunar Eclipse |
| |
|
Observed and photographed only
from the beginning of the partial phase to the
end of totality. The photos did not turn out that
well, mostly due to poor focusing, not placing
the moon in the centre of the frame, and slightly
off exposures.
The shadows on the picture at
left are tree branches. |

| Final Comments: |
A pretty good year for
observing, although most of the observing was done in
only two major sessions. Too bad I did not get a
chance to get out more often in the Spring and Fall. |
